Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex has introduced a brand new experience platform, with Attractions.io behind the technology that aims to improve communication, navigation, and accessibility for guests at the popular attraction.
One of Florida’s most visited attractions, the Visitor Complex at Kennedy Space Center welcomes millions of people every year.
The site previously used a custom mobile application, but certain challenges made it difficult to maintain.
The solution from Attractions.io pairs the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform’s mobile app with its data console. When used side-by-side, it offers the complex tools and data needed to optimise the visitor experience and also the ability to communicate with guests in real-time.
“The Center is an iconic institution that has been pushing the boundaries of technology for over half a century,” said Attractions.io CEO, Mark Locker.
“We're proud to contribute to this legacy and provide guests at their Visitor Complex with a digital companion that boosts their visit.”
On-site guests can use the app to explore the site, with Attractions.io’s wayfinding solution identifying exhibits, launch pads and other points of interest in both offline and online modes. This can be used across the entirety of the Visitor Complex campus, which spans more than 283,000sq m (3.05 million sq ft).
Kennedy Space Center also uses the app to advertise special rocket launch events, while guest services leverage data collected to refine messaging and increase revenue through targeted messaging.
Moving forward, Visitor Complex management says plans include expanding the Attractions.io platform by introducing a mobile wallet integration with Gateway that will allow guests to buy tickets, souvenirs, and other items from their devices. This feature is set to launch in the summer.
“Kennedy Space Center is always looking for ways to innovate and stay ahead of the curve,” said Therrin Protze, COO of Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
“Our app is one example of how we're pushing boundaries and continuing to inspire a generation of digital native space explorers.”
