Attractions.io launches industry-first in-app map with dynamic lighting at Alton Towers

Attractions.io has partnered with Alton Towers to introduce an industry-first in-app dynamic lighting map to be utilised at the operator’s popular Scarefest and Ultimate Fireworks Spectacular events

Guest experience platform Attractions.io has launched a first for the attractions industry, with a new addition to the mobile app of popular British theme park Alton Towers offering dynamic lightning dependant on the time of day.

Adjusting in real time to mirror ambient light within the Merlin-operated park, the interactive map will transition to reflect its environment for after dark events at Alton Towers, including the popular Scarefest and Ultimate Fireworks Spectacular offerings.

The enhanced night mode on the map also reflects moonlight from bodies of water in the park, including the iconic lake at the front of the towers. Attractions.io says that this detail “ensures guests are not just informed but immersed in a setting where technology and nature converge to enhance the visual and sensory experience”.

“As a theme park resort we strive to be innovative and love to provide our guests with something unique,” said Bianca Sammut, divisional director at Alton Towers Resort. “Thanks to this new feature, Attractions.io has made this possible within our app and I’m excited for our guests to see this update in all its glory.”

The new feature is the latest in an ongoing collaboration between Alton Towers and Attractions.io, which is helping to drive innovation for development of the guest experience platform.

“Maps are a key part of the digital guest experience, which is why we invested in creating our own mapping technology, purpose-built for attractions,” said Mark Locker, founder and CEO of Attractions.io.

“Our collaboration with Alton Towers to introduce the first-ever nighttime map is a first glimpse into the possibilities this enables, helping guests to feel even more connected to their surroundings. We’re excited to continue to innovate and deliver the best possible mapping experience to guests.”
