Travel service provider Trip.com Group has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Merlin Entertainments to attract visitors to marine-focused events and experiences across Asia.

Trip.com and Merlin will collaborate on events across the Asia region, utilising attractions such as Chang Feng Ocean World Shanghai, Sea Life Bangkok, Sea Life Busan, and the COEX Aquarium in Seoul for the partnership.

At attractions such as these, visitors will be able to experience a variety of programmes ranging from aquarium ‘Science Nights’ to marine-centred festivals.

According to Merlin, the diverse range of programmes on offer will not only educate and engage travellers but it will also create a deeper understanding of the marine environment, highlighting the crucial role people play in protecting the world’s oceans.

“Our partnership will explore exciting new avenues and emphasise bespoke products for our customers around the world,” said Jim Ji, vice president of Trip.com Group and CEO of Attractions and Tours.

“Together, we aim to enrich the traveller's journey and make global exploration more accessible and fun through rich branded entertainment destinations.”

As part of the MoU signing, Trip.com and Merlin also restated a commitment to pioneer new technologies to transform products and elevate guest experiences. This approach, says the two companies, not only paves the way for industry-first prototypes but also “sets a new benchmark for the future of travel”.

“We know the needs of travellers today are evolving, they demand greater immersion and purpose when they travel,” said Fiona Eastwood, COO of Merlin Entertainments Gateway and Resort Theme Parks.

“The partnership is not just about driving business growth; it’s about delivering exceptional experiences to our guests and our ongoing commitment to conserving marine ecosystems for future generations.”
