Thorpe Park has joined the NHS Vaccination Programme, opening a pop-up vaccination clinic to encourage unvaccinated park-goers to get their jabs against COVID-19.

Visitors to the Surrey-based theme park will be able to receive their first or second dose of the Pfizer vaccine before enjoying their day at the park.

Thorpe Park is the latest of several popular leisure destinations, including the Tate Modern, Goodwood racecourse and Burnley F.C., to offer a pop-up vaccination centre.

The initiative is designed to make it easier for younger people to get their vaccines, with figures up to July 18 suggesting that 66.4% of people aged 18 to 29 in England have had their first dose of the vaccine.

Most recently, NHS walk-ins were held at Ascot Racecourse and Latitude Festival, allowing thousands to be vaccinated throughout the events.

“Thorpe Park is just the latest pop-up clinic. I would urge anyone yet to get their vaccine to come forward and attend a walk-in site, or book online – it remains the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones,” said Dr Nikki Kanini, NHS England medical director for primary care.

“As the NHS’s success helps the country get back to normal, we know that people, and particularly young people, are leading busier lives, so whether you are queuing for the Colossus or staffing the ice cream kiosk, we are making getting a jab as easy as possible,” she added.

Dr Charlotte Canniff, clinical chair at Surrey Heartlands CCG, said of the pop-up vaccine centre: “This is a great opportunity to reach people who haven’t yet taken up the offer of a first vaccine or had their second jab. I would encourage anyone in this position to get vaccinated. Thanks to Thorpe Park for their support.”

Health secretary Sajid Javid described the pop-up as a “fantastic opportunity for theme park enthusiasts, young people and families to get a vaccine while they enjoy a day out.”

“From historic sites such as the British Science Museum to huge entertainment events like Latitude Festival, we have worked to ensure the COVID-19 vaccine is easily accessible,” he added.
