Netflix’s smash hit South Korean survival drama Squid Game is making its attractions debut, with the show transformed into an interactive experience for UK audiences.

Squid Game - which centres on a group of deeply indebted individuals who participate in a deadly game show for the chance to win millions - became the first Korean drama to top Netflix's top ten weekly most-watched TV show charts globally and in the process became only the sixth show to surpass 3 billion minutes viewed in a week.

Such is its popularity that the show has made the jump to the visitor attractions world very quickly, with willing participants able to put their money where their mouths are with a real-life version of the show - albeit with lower stakes and no life-threatening games.

Just like in Squid Game, guests compete for a cash prize (A considerably lower £500 compared to the millions on offer in the show), with the prize increasing as players are eliminated.

While the cash prize might be lower, on the plus side players thankfully won’t be swiftly executed if they’re eliminated like in the series.

The experience features a number of mental and physical challenges, with organisers Universal Ents also hiring staff to ensure contestants play by the rules.

In each game, up to 40 contestants will face five rounds of challenges, some of which are inspired by the show, while others are completely new. To immerse visitors in the experience, they will be kitted out with a uniform to wear and will be fed a “hearty meal” inspired by the food given to players in the show. The event also features live actors, with live scenes parodying those on the show.

To add an element of mystery, the location of the event is being kept under wraps. To join the game, players must fill in a form online and will be then accepted via postal invitation. Rather than being given the exact location, players will be picked up via coach in the North West of England and then driven to a remote location to take part in the challenges.

"We want to make sure our experiences are safe, but still as riveting as the games seen on the Netflix smash Squid Game, but due to the violent nature of the hit show, we want to be cautious that the events don't attract unstable people,” said Max Fox, creative director of the experience.

"This is a pain-free experience. There will be no paintballs, guns or otherwise, but don't be afraid of getting wet.

"We want to make the games as realistic as possible, without the risk of injury. Some of our games you won't have seen before, but there needs to be an element of surprise and mystery so people really don't know what they're letting themselves in for."

Entry costs £45 with the first event taking place November 27. To apply, click here.
