Holovis technology has been celebrated in the 30th annual TEA Thea Awards, with SeaWorld Yas Island, Abu Dhabi claiming the prestigious accolade.

Rewarding excellence for the creation of compelling educational, historical and entertainment projects, the Themed Entertainment Association’s (TEA) Thea Awards reinforce the value of experience design and themed entertainment approaches to engaging people worldwide.

Described as the ‘largest marine life theme park in the world’, the animal attraction opened last year and is the result of a partnership between leading immersive attractions developer Miral and SeaWorld.

According to the TEA, overall storytelling of SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is impressive, with immersive media, lighting design and integration with a mix of spatial audio and footage that transport guests into enchanting, undersea worlds.

Holovis has been named in the credits for the Thea alongside a number of companies who helped bring the park to life, with its significant contributions including AV supply and installation throughout the park, and design, production and installation of the S·E·A Guardian Games.

Installing AV parkwide included a giant LED screen that surrounds the park’s main hub. Standing 15m high and with a circumference of 218m, the 360 degree cylindrical ‘One Ocean’ screen is “one of the largest and most impressive single screens anywhere in the world”, according to Holovis.

Accompanying the LED screen in One Ocean Hub is an LED Globe, which measures 5.4m in diameter and delivers “a multi-faceted visual experience” immersive content playing constantly through the day.

Throughout the park, Holovis provided a huge range of other LED screens, including the large-scale “Armillary” projection dome, as well as parkwide audio and a parkwide AV control system.

For S.E.A Guardian Games, Holovis collaborated with Miral and SeaWorld’s parent company United Parks and Resorts to design, produce and install the attraction, which is a narrative-driven, turnkey parkwide game experience. As they explore, guests take part in more than 15 interactive mini-games and find over 100 touchpoints where they can activate media-moments only accessible to players of the game. Players can also take part in interactive quests, scavenger hunts and side missions.

Holovis is honoured to have been a part of the wonderful and prestigious SeaWorld Yas Island, Abu Dhabi project. CEO Stuart Hetherington commented,

“This Thea Award is the culmination of years of hard work for every single person at Holovis,” said Holovis CEO, Stuart Hetherington.

“This has been one of the biggest and most exciting projects we’ve ever been a part of, utilising the full capabilities of Holovis across AV, software and art and design. We would like to extend our thanks to Miral, United Parks & Resorts and every other collaborator we’ve worked with on this amazing park.”
