‘The Imagineers are on it’: Encanto songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda hints at potential plans for Disney’s parks

Lin-Manuel Miranda says that Disney’s Imagineers ‘are on it’ when it comes to the development of a new Encanto attraction for Disney’s theme parks

Actor, singer-songwriter, playwright, and filmmaker Lin-Manuel Miranda, has said that his top priority is to see an Encanto ride at one of Disney’s parks, revealing that the Imagineering team is “on it”, in terms of making the dream a reality.

Speaking to Insider, Miranda, who composed the film’s catchy musical soundtrack, said that he wants an Encanto attraction to be made before a sequel or TV series is looked at.

“The Imagineers are on it,” he said, speaking on the red carpet ahead of the Hispanic Federation's annual gala. “I don't know what they do or where they live, but I know they're on it.”

While it’s currently not known what form an Encanto attraction would take inside a Disney park, Miranda did previously reveal that he had spoken to Disney CEO Bob Chapek about visitors to Disney parks being able to walk though the Madrigal family home, which itself is essentially a character in the movie.

"I talked to him and said, 'I know there's a world in which this casita lives in a theme park and we get to actually walk through it in real life’,” Miranda told The Wrap, also adding that he wants to "go in and out of this casita and see those characters and see the house respond because that's something Disney can do that no one else can do."

Encanto is the perfect Disney IP to be transformed into an attraction, not only because of its popularity but because of the fact that the cinematography for much of the film is firmly placed in the world of attractions, with theme park dark rides acting as the inspiration for the film’s musical layouts.

While an official Disney attraction might be a little way off, the Encanto IP has already made its presence felt at the operator’s attractions.

During April, the facade of “It’s a Small World” at Disneyland in California, US, was lit up with a visual montage based on the movie’s hit song We Don’t Talk About Bruno, with a combination of projection and lighting, featuring an art style inspired by the lyrics.

Rumours are also flying that the overhaul of Disneyland’s Tarzan’s Treehouse will be Encanto themed, though there has been no official confirmation from Disney. The attraction closed in September last year for the second time in its 59-year history, with the attraction to be rethemed with a new IP in 2022.
