WATCH: Meet Conductr CEO and co-founder Peter Cliff

Experiential design collective Conductr made its first appearance at an IAAPA show this year as part of the Experience UK stand in London. Planet Attractions spoke to co-founder and CEO Peter Cliff about the start-up and its plans for the future

A new player in the attractions sector, experiential design firm Conductr was formed earlier this year by industry veterans Peter Cliff and Jos van der Steen.

Though still in its formative stages, the company - which is based in Manchester, UK, and creates large-scale attractions and experiences using media and next-gen technologies - has grown significantly in its first year, expanding its workforce and taking on major projects with a number of operators worldwide.

According to Cliff and van der Steen, the new company brings together a collective of skilled designers, artists, engineers and developers, with the aim of creating new immersive experiences. Its goal is to transform physical environments with real-time evolving narratives, using cutting-edge technology.

Planet Attractions caught up with Cliff at this year’s IAAPA Expo Europe in London to talk about his new venture and his experience at this year’s event.

What is Conductr?

“Conductr is a creative studio that specialises in tech-driven experiences. We're mixing media, software, AI, AV and lighting to bring together really cool experiences.

We're not a master planner - we work with brilliant master planners in the industry - and we're not a ride manufacturer. We sit in the middle of that and we create really cool, guest-centric experiences.

It's all about bringing people together and utilising technology as a magical tool to do so.”

How was your IAAPA Expo Europe?

“It's been a really cool show. It's our first IAAPA. We've been to a couple of tradeshows before, but this is our first IAAPA as Conductr because we're only seven months old - so we're a baby - and it's lovely that that's in the UK.

It's been great to connect with old colleagues and friends and it's been awesome.”

How was it being a part of the Experience UK stand?

“Great. We had a big red bus so people could find us nice and easy. It was also really good to share the stand with other great companies because you could start to see the synergies that could happen if those companies decide to come together and work together.

What’s your favourite attraction?

“The attraction that was like a game changer for me was probably Spider-Man. When I first rode that over at Universal Studios, I was like; Wow. This is incredible. This is different. Super immersive and unique to anything I'd ever, ever done before.

Since then, there have been other attractions that have trumped it from an experience perspective. But it will always remain a bit of a game changer for me, and I suppose inspired me to do what we do now.”
