The world’s ‘most extensive’ mobile phone museum is set to launch digitally next month, with provider Vodafone working in partnership with the launch.

The telecommunications giant has signed a five-year sponsorship agreement that will support the development of the digital museum and enable the museum to reach a wider audience, as well as assist with the acquisition of missing handsets.

Showcasing the evolution of the mobile phone from its inception in 1984 to the present day, the museum will offer a collection of more than 2,000 mobile phones from more than 200 manufacturers and aims to inspire a new generation of designers and engineers.

“Over the past three decades, the mobile phone has become part of the fabric of society and the design diversity, from early transportable phones to the latest smartphones with flexible displays is something to behold,” said the museum’s founder and technology research analyst, Ben Wood.

“When the online museum launches later this year, we want it to be a rich learning resource and a way to inspire young people to go on to create incredible innovations of their own in the future.”
