Sweden is hailing the launch of what it calls “the world’s cleanest snowmobile”, with the electric vehicle also designed to maximise the product life span.
Called the Vidde Alpha, the snowmobile can operate in temperatures as low as -39°C (-38.2°F) and has been created Swedish startup Vidde Mobility in partnership with Italian design house Pininfarina.
The vehicle was launched on February 18 at IceHotel in Swedish Lapland, where it will be test-driven and evaluated. Icehotel partnered up with Vidde on the project, which it says will enhance the visitor experience by bringing them closer to nature and engaging all five senses.
“Being able to offer our future guests the opportunity to experience the fantastic nature surrounding Icehotel more silently thanks to the snowmobile is absolutely amazing,” said Marie Herrey, CEO of Icehotel.
“Vidde will enable a completely unique and new experience of being present in nature. At the same time, being able to minimise environmental impact on one of our most popular experiences feels completely right and aligns with our sustainability thinking.”
Icehotel first opened in 1989 and is an ever-changing hotel and art exhibition, with a new version created every winter and made completely from natural ice.
Following Icehotel trials, the Vidde Alpha will be able to purchase from late 2024, with the vehicle retailing at €26,200.
