Universal Parks & Resorts has filed a new ride patent that could hint at a future attraction at its upcoming Epic Universe resort in Orlando, Florida.

The patent, titled ‘Dark Ride Tower Systems Having Stationary and Adaptable Rooms’, describes a tower-like ride system boasting two levels, the first of which will remain stationary, while the second will be able to be reconfigured into several different layouts, offering several possible ride experiences and promoting re-rideability.

“It is now recognised that the ability to simulate more complex viewing experiences in a relatively compact space may further enhance guest experiences,” Universal said in the patent documents

It’s been speculated that the technology could be used as the main attraction in Epic Universe’s Universal Monsters land, which is currently under construction.

It is the latest in a series of patents filed by Universal, the most recent of which is for a system and method for controlling the performance of a digital character.
