Thousands oppose Lake District theme park quarry plans

Thousands have signed a petition opposing plans to turn a disused quarry in the UK’s Lake District into a theme park.

Elterwater Quarry owners Holker Group say the plans would become a "heritage attraction", including educational elements about the area's geology. Opponents to the plan have said that the location was unsuitable and that it would increase traffic in the area.

The plans call for a toboggan-style "Cavern Coaster", as well as high ropes courses and zip lines.
