SpongeBob’s Crazy Carnival Ride has made its first appearance outside of the US, with the attraction now open to the public at Antalya’s Land of Legend.
Part of the park’s newly unveiled Nickelodeon Land, the attraction is a collaboration between Alterface and Sally Dark Rides, and is the first SpongeBob SquarePants-themed dark ride to open outside the US.
The new installation, said Alterface CEO Stéphane Battaille, showcases a “shared commitment to creating immersive and memorable attractions,”
"The interactive elements are perfectly aligned, creating an energetic and dynamic experience,” he added.
“Additionally, Sally Dark Rides did an incredible job bringing the unmistakable humor of the SpongeBob series to life through a storyline and gameplay that are easy to understand, fast-paced, and packed with fun.”
Set inside Mr. Krabs’ topsy-turvy carnival, guests are drawn into a lighthearted storyline where SpongeBob and friends repurpose Krabby Patty ingredients for midway games - all while thwarting Plankton’s inevitable schemes. Designed and manufactured by Sally, the attraction blends humor, vibrant visuals and accessible gameplay to create a family-friendly experience rooted in the SpongeBob universe.
Alterface, known for its expertise in real-time show control and interactive technologies, provided the shooting system and system architecture. Departing from traditional ride guns, the team opted for a wand-like "Zapper" device - a design choice aimed at increasing ease-of-use and encouraging deeper guest participation.
The ride also utilises ETF’s trackless Mystic Mover system, which carries guests through six scenes featuring a mix of 2D animated media, physical targets, and animatronic figures. Alterface’s technology modulates lighting, sound, animation, and special effects based on each vehicle’s exact position, delivering a ride experience that evolves with every playthrough.
“For fans of SpongeBob, it feels like stepping into the show,” said Battaille. “The humor, the pacing, the visual gags - it all translates beautifully into an experience that’s both intuitive and deeply engaging. We’re proud to bring that to life for guests in Türkiye and excited about the future of this partnership.”
