Shanghai Disney is reopening after a single case of Covid-19 closed the park for several days.
China has taken a hardline stance against COVID-19, with tough measures such as the shutdown and testing reinforcing its zero-tolerance approach to preventing outbreaks of the disease.
The park was swarmed by police and health workers in hazmat suits on Saturday with people having to wait a number of hours for a negative test before they were permitted to leave the park.
Disney says that all 33,863 people who were tested all had negative results. However, they must get a second test and have their health monitored in the coming days.
Complying with health rules in Shanghai, the park remained closed through Monday and Tuesday but reopened today.
“Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and patience over the past few days, as Shanghai Disneyland and Disneytown suspended operations according to directives on pandemic prevention and control,” said a statement from the operator.
“Shanghai Disneyland and Disneytown will resume operations on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, with Shanghai Disneyland operating from 10:00 to 19:00, and Disneytown operating from 10:00 to 21:00.
“All Shanghai Disney Resort Cast Members and Third-Party Employees returning to work have completed two Nucleic Acid Test (NAT) tests within 48 hours per prevention and control requirements, with all results negative, and are strictly following CDC self-health monitoring guidelines. All environment samples collected have been tested negative.
“We will continue to implement enhanced health and safety measures, including intensive cleaning and sanitisation of all facilities and strict management of indoor airflow and social distancing. We will also continue to enforce strict health and safety measures for all guests, including limited daily attendance, mandatory advanced ticketing and reservation, temperature and health code checks on resort entry and staggered guest flow.
“We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to health care professionals and related departments for their professionalism and efficiency, and our Cast for their dedication and commitment. Their tremendous support during this period add confidence in our pandemic prevention and control measures and protocols and has facilitated our smooth re-opening.”
