Schlitterbahn New Braunfels set to launch US$2m kids waterpark addition in 2024

Schlitterbahn New Braunfels will open a new child-focused section later this year, with Schatze’s Storybrook Park set to open in the summer with the first Master Blaster attraction built specifically for children

Schlitterbahn New Braunfels is preparing for the launch of a brand-new multi-million dollar fairy tale children’s area, with the new addition coming to the popular Texas waterpark later this year.

Called Schatze’s Storybrook Park, the US$2m (€1.8m, £1.5m) addition covers 37,600sq ft (3,500sq m) and is aimed at children 12 years and under.

Divided into three sections - the ‘Fur-Bidden Forest’, ‘Schatze’s Paw’nd’ and ‘Fairy Tail Trail’ - the storybook-inspired land is made up of a range of kid-friendly waterslides, alongside more than 70 interactive water features.

The Fur-Bidden Forest area will feature a “magical world” of water-gushing mushrooms, tree-shaped water slides, and areas to play, crawl, climb and get wet. In the same area, a gigantic tipping water bucket will spill 1,200 gallons of water, while Prince Hopsalot from Schatze’s retold story, The Paw Prints and the Frog, sits at the forest edge.

Schatze’s Paw’nd will be highlighted by Bow Wow Blaster, which is a mini version of the Whitewater-manufactured Master Blaster uphill water coaster and will be the first such attraction designed specifically for children. Also in the area, Three Little Pugs is a series of three little water slides named after their appearance: Noodle, Comet, and Curly. A shallow “paw’nd” also offers room for play.

Finally, the Fairy Tail Trail is set inside a shady area with play fountains and toddler-friendly slides. Attractions include Little Red Riding Hound’s forest, Houndsel and Petzel’s dog treat house and Rapawnzel’s enchanted castle. Young children will also be able to play on water geysers at Pawed Piper’s Pipes.

“Opening at Schlitterbahn New Braunfels in 2024 is Schatze’s Storybrook Park, an all-new area in the original section of the park,” said Schlitterbahn in a statement. “Come see how Texas’s favourite short-legged hound has reimagined everyone’s favourite fairy tales into puppy-themed fairy ‘tails’ gushing with splish-splash fun.”

Construction on the new area is set to be completed by the start of April with a summer opening penned for the attraction’s launch.
