Joe Biden, the 46th president of the United States, has been immortalised in animatronic form at Disney’s Hall of Presidents attraction at the Magic Kingdom park in Disney World, Florida.
The installation saw Biden installed alongside previous presidents Barack Obama, Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy.
Biden’s installation formed part of a renovation project, which saw the Hall of Presidents close in January 2020. The attraction remained closed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic but reopened to the public in August 2021.
“Creative teams have been busy programming an audio-animatronic replica of the President, pairing it with a delivery of the presidential oath of office recorded at the White House by President Biden himself just for the attraction,” said a Disney spokesperson.
Biden will be displayed alongside replicas of several significant items, such as peach blossoms and aviator sunglasses.
“The table next to President Biden is adorned with a few special items, each with their own significance to the President—including peach blossoms to represent his home state of Delaware and a pair of aviators as a nod to his proclivity for the sunglasses” the spokesperson added.
The Hall of Presidents attraction has recently come under fire for its animatronic of Donald Trump, which bears little resemblance to the former president.
It's been speculated, due to comments made by podcaster and theme park historian; Jim Hill on the Disney Dish podcast, that the animatronic was initially made to look like presidential candidate Hilary Clinton but had to be changed after Trump’s surprise victory in the 2016 election.
