A new indoor theme park is currently under development in the Netherlands, with Bommelwereld set to open to the public in 2025.
Covering 9,000sq m, Jora Vision is behind the design of the new park, with ride suppliers Vekoma and Zamperla also involved in the project.
Promising to be a blend of nostalgia and cutting-edge amusement park technology, the park has been designed to appeal to multiple generations.
Based on Olivier B. Bommel, a well-known character from Dutch literature, the aristocratic bear travels on adventures with his friend Tom Poes and is the creation of Marten Toonder, who wrote the comic book series.
Featuring more than 18 attractions, visitors to the park will be greeted by a 21m-high medieval castle facade, which inside will include a Hall of Fame and a portrait gallery exploring the history of Olivier B. Bommel. A grand theatre will also feature with the venue set to host shows based around the IPs characters.
Among the attractions, Vekoma is supplying a new family coaster dubbed Bulder Baan. Presented as a first coaster for young visitors, the family ride has a unique track layout and a length of 257m. Reaching 45kmph, the attraction takes riders through the mysterious mountains and is placed on extended columns, allowing visitors to walk beneath the majority of the ride itself.
“To further enhance the experience, the curves are strategically designed to place other attractions in the centre of the park,” said a Vekoma statement.
“This creates a dynamic and engaging environment as the coaster zigzags through the indoor space, offering guests multiple vantage points to enjoy the ride.”
Meanwhile, Zamperla has supplied three attractions, including its Gogo Bounze 6.4 themed with pastel-coloured fish scales; ots Rockin’ Tug with classic boat theming; and its Mini Jet 6 complete with dinosaur-egg-inspired cabins.
“This project highlights not just Zamperla's expertise in theming, but also our ability to work closely with the client and the design company to achieve a shared vision,” said Enrico Patechi, Zamperla’s Creative Design manager.
“Our focus has always been on creating an immersive, engaging space, and it's rewarding to see how well everything has come together.”
Among the other rides featured in the park is a unique figure-eight ride by ABC Rides that has spinning cars that create the illusion of near collisions, while the ride supplier has also built a mini flume ride called Razende Rommel.
“Bommelwereld is more than just an amusement park; it's a celebration of Dutch cultural heritage,” says Edwin Bomers, who is behind the project.
“We're excited to offer a year-round destination where families can create lasting memories while immersing themselves in the charming world of Olivier B. Bommel.”
Bommelwereld expects to draw around 100,000 visitors annually, with the park also set to feature a conference centre, a large theatre and a space for a Bommel Museum.
