Former Disney chief Bob Iger linked with Chelsea FC sale

Could Bob Iger be Chelsea FC’s co-saviour? The former Disney man has been linked as an investor for the Premier League club alongside Steve Pagliuca

Bog Iger could be a potential co-investor in a purchase of Chelsea Football Club

Bob Iger has been linked with a potentially stunning move to English Premier League football club Chelsea, with the former Disney CEO lined up as a potential co-investor alongside Boston Celtics owner Steve Pagliuca.

After spending more than two decades in senior positions at Disney, Iger officially left the company at the end of December 2021.

During his time as CEO, Disney made a number of major acquisitions, including takeovers of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and 21st Century Fox. This also led to a transformation of Disney’s parks, with a host of new IPs being introduced over the last two decades.

Iger’s landmark park project was the opening of Shanghai Disney - Disney’s first theme park resort in mainland China.

Now sounded out by Pagliuca to co-finance the purchase of Chelsea, Iger could become a potential saviour for the Premier League club, which has been left in limbo since Russian owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the British Government and had most of its assets frozen.

One of four bidders shortlisted to buy Chelsea, if Pagliuca and Iger were to buy the football club, their shared net wealth would come in at an estimated US$4.5bn (€4.13bn, £3.44bn), though the level of potential investment from Iger at this stage is unknown.
