Efteling has revealed further details of its upcoming hotel development, which once complete will be the first visitor accommodation to be located actually inside the popular Dutch theme park.
Called the Efteling Grand Hotel, the 143-bedroom development will rise seven storeys and has been designed with a nod to the history of the theme park, as well as Scandinavian ports. The building’s standout feature will be a gigantic clock complete with a pendulum.
To enter the park from the hotel, guests will pass through a nine-metre high and 16-metre wide arcade. Meanwhile, an expansive square between the main entrance and the new hotel will create a space for hotel guests and park visitors to enjoy the surroundings.
Amenities include a spa and a pool, as well as two restaurants, two shops and a terrace overlooking the Aquanura water show.
"This striking and unique addition will be the central point in the World of Efteling,” said Sander de Bruijn, head designer of the new hotel.
“In terms of design, this hotel fits in with other characteristic buildings at Efteling, but its shape and functionality give it a character all of its own. Nature, greenery and water are the connecting factors. Hotel guests, as well as visitors of the theme park, will be able to discover the wonderful environment of this new place from early until late.”
Construction on the site will start following the summer season of 2022. The new hotel will open in the spring of 2024, bringing the total number of available beds up to 3,900. The park is one of the most popular in Europe and welcomes around five million visitors each year.
In June 2021, Efteling had plans approved for a major expansion, with the three-phase project set to be completed in 2030. The first phase of construction is planned on the eastern side of the existing park.
