Country music legend Dolly Parton has announced plans to open a self-dedicated museum in Nashville, Tennessee.
Parton told local newspaper The Tennessean that she plans to open the attraction, which could form part of a wider leisure complex, “within the next couple of years.”
“We have the museum at Dollywood, of course, but I would love to have something here since this is really my home,” said Parton.
“I may also have a restaurant or a bar and grill. Right now, though, I’ve got so many things going. I can do without that for the moment. But someday I will have a business here.”
It’s currently unknown what would go on display at the museum, however, it's likely to document Parton’s career - which spans more than five decades - from her early beginnings on The Porter Wagoner Show in the late 60s, which inspired hit songs I Will Always Love You and Light of a Clear Blue Morning, to her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, in November.
The existing Chasing Rainbows Museum at the Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, takes visitors on a journey through the singer’s history. Exhibits include a replica of the ‘coat of many colours’ handstitched by Parton’s mother and made famous in the song of the same name, as well as the singer’s high school band uniform.
The news comes shortly after the artist, who made headlines for joining short-form video platform TikTok in early December, announced she would no longer be touring but would continue to play live shows on occasion.
