Attractions Technology Lab set for return during week of IAAPA Expo with dark ride event

Bringing together some of the industry’s leading suppliers under one banner, the Attractions Technology Lab returns to Orlando next month to showcase a complete technical mock-up of a dark ride experience, with a behind the scenes look at how such an attraction comes to life

The Attractions Technology Lab (ATL) is set to make its return to Orlando, with a number of the industry’s leading suppliers coming together to showcase a complete technical mock-up of a dark ride experience.

Immersing visitors in the latest industry innovations, the ATL was first launched in 2022 by a consortium of leading companies in the attractions and entertainment industries, including Christie, Oceaneering, Alcorn McBride, Garner Holt Productions and Weigl Control.

The ATL was created to showcase technologies designed for the needs of attractions while advancing innovation through collaboration. In this spirit, this year’s ATL features an expanded list of partners in 2023, with Good Theory Studios, Fivestone Studios, Stephen Arnold Music, and Theme Park AV all joining the programme.

Focusing on “the power of imagination and creativity facilitated through technical collaboration”, visitors to the lab will experience a complete installation showcasing each company’s technologies, with engineers from each manufacturer on hand to answer technical questions and provide additional training.

Through the ATL, Good Theory Studios and Fivestone Studios have partnered to develop content specifically for the Dark Ride Lab.

“In the true spirit of collaboration, both companies worked together to craft the visual experiences that serve as our canvas for the art of technology,” said Loren Barrows, COO at Alcorn McBride and a founding partner of the ATC. “Their dedication to detail and design has added a layer of intrigue and story that transformed our entire lab.”

Stephen Arnold Music will be showcasing custom music for the event, with its soundscape permeating the entire lab through a system designed by Theme Park AV in partnership with several manufacturers. Using gear provided by Holoplot, Alcorn McBride, Q-SYS, and Powersoft, ThemePark AV has developed an advanced audio ecosystem suited to meet the demands of the dark ride environment.

The experience will take place at the Oceaneering production campus in Orlando on November 10 and through the week of IAAPA Expo, which will take place at the nearby Orange County Convention Center from November 13-17.
