Suppliers Alterface, ETF Ride Systems and Jora Vision are working together on a brand new ride project coming to the under-development Six Flags Qiddiya City.
Partnering previously on rides including Bazyliszek at Legendia Poland and Popcorn Revenge and Walibi Belgium, the trio of ride suppliers have worked together to create Enchanted Greenhouse - a dark ride attraction that will “set a new bar for interactive and themed indoor attractions”.
Themed as an abandoned greenhouse, the family-friendly ride will sit in the park's “Twilight Gardens”, which is one of six themed lands currently being built. Upon entering the greenhouse, visitors will encounter the elusive warden ‘Farasha’ as they unravel the secrets of the space, searching for its hidden inhabitants and interacting with everything around them.
According to a release, the central idea is that the ride will also be fun when your finger isn’t on the trigger, with memorable scenes you can influence rather than a pure shooting gallery. This non-intrusive interactivity approach utilises Alterface technology, with interactive elements such as media content, physical props, Pepper’s Ghosts and mapped projections all combining to tell the ride’s story.
In addition to creating an interactive experience, Alterface is responsible for coordinating the ride’s media, music, and lighting.
“The collaboration with ETF Ride Systems and Jora Vision is key,” said Stephane Bataille, CEO of Alterface.
“This allows us to use an entire register of visual tricks and to hide the technology from the guests to immerse them into a truly magical experience.”
The ride will feature 12 six-seater trackless vehicles from ETF, which will travel 160m within a 1300sq m themed space. Each vehicle will have a custom-themed body with animated elements, with unobstructed views of the ride experience.
Additionally, a unique non-linear loading station increases capacity and reduces queue times.
“With all the different elements and vehicles, it’s like conducting an orchestra to create a symphony”, said Ruud Koppens, CEO of ETF Ride Systems.
Jora Vision created the overall concept and the yet-to-be-revealed ride story. On the ride, passengers in each vehicle will work together to awaken the inhabitants of the world, with the story told through multiple animatronics, 14 multimedia projectors and a never-before-seen effect in an interactive dark ride.
The ride narrative has been influenced by both local Saudi culture and by stories inspired by the region.
“Six Flags Qiddiya City is an extraordinary development in our industry, renowned for its creative and visionary ambitions,” said Robin van der Want, project development director at Jora Vision. “We believe The Enchanted Greenhouse harmonises beautifully with these enchanting aspirations, promising to be a brand-new ride experience for families to enjoy in Saudi.”
The new attraction is part of Six Flags Qiddiya - a theme park development that will cover 320,000sq m (3.4 million sq ft) and will feature upon opening 28 rides and attractions across six themed lands - Enchanted Greenhouse among them.
Qiddiya is a new district on the outskirts of the Saudi capital of Riyadh, which covers 141sq mi (367sq km) and is made up of five key areas. First is the resort core, which is home to Qiddiya’s theme parks, entertainment and dining attractions, including Six Flags and a mammoth US$750m (€686m, £598m) waterpark development.
Next is the Qiddiya Village - a 24/7 mixed-use centre dedicated to entertainment and sports. Third is the motion zone, which features motorsports experiences. Fourth is the ecozone with nature and wildlife encounters. Finally comes the golf and residential community - a residential community featuring world-class golf courses.
With Qiddya among its major investments, Saudi Arabia has revealed that it plans to invest a further US$800bn (€737.3bn, £630.4bn) in tourism projects over the next decade, with developments worth more than US$1tn (€921.7bn, £787.7bn) already underway.
