While many animal attractions have struggled through 2020 and 2021, the news is more positive in Florida, with ZooTampa reporting an attendance record of 1.2 million visitors last year.
In 2021 the zoo introduced Expedition Wild Africa - an exhibit that takes vehicles out to offer up-close encounters with species such as the one-horned rhinoceros. ZooTampa was also featured on NatGeo’s Secrets of the Zoo: Tampa and had introduced enhanced seasonal Halloween and Christmas events over the last few years.
The zoo’s previous attendance record was 991,351 in 2016. The attendance increase represents more than 200,000 people.
