The Unesco World Heritage Centre (WHC) has held an online meeting and several virtual workshops to support Iraq in its efforts to conserve its World Heritage sites.
The meeting, which took place in May, was organised in partnership with Icomos (the International Council on Museums and Sites) with support from the World Heritage Fund and the Government of the Netherlands via the Unesco/Netherlands Funds-in-Trust (NFiT).
Attended by representatives of the Iraqi State Board of Antiquities (SBAH), as well as site managers from several of the country’s World Heritage sites, the meeting was centred around the Reactive Monitoring process and the state of conservation reporting as envisioned by the ‘Operation Guidelines for the implementation of the World Heritage Converntion’.
Meanwhile, the two-day online workshops featured interactive education sessions, and practical exercises and provided technical assistance for the preparation of Retrospective Statements of Outstanding Universal Value (RSOUV) for sites currently without the statement.
