Russia’s assault on Ukraine has claimed the lives of 300 animals after massive flooding of the Kazkova Dibrova Zoo occurred following the Kakhovka dam blast.
Both Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of destroying the Russian-occupied Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam, which suffered major damage on Tuesday, sending torrents of water into the nearby area, prompting emergency evacuations, mass destruction and huge ecological damage.
Kazkova Dibrova Zoo owner Olena Navrotska told Ukrainian news outlet UP.Zhyttia that all of the zoo’s animals are dead despite efforts to rescue them.
“The animals were stuck in the park; the whole park was mined, covered with trees, and dug through with trenches. Evacuation was impossible. We were trying with all our might to keep the animals safe,” said Navrotska.
“How much effort was put in, how many people helped to save the animals in such terrible conditions, practically risking their own lives? And now Dibrova is gone - 300 innocent animals, our beloved pets, are dead”.
