London’s Natural History Museum has given its Tyrannosaurus Rex a festive makeover for the holiday season, kitting it out with its own giant Christmas jumper.
The animatronic t-rex is now ready for the Christmas season, with the fearsome dino set to wear the 100% recycled yarn sweater until the museum closes for Christmas on December 24.
The navy, red, green and white pattern features snowflakes, fir trees - and of course dinosaurs, including Triceratops, Stegosaurus, T-Rex and Diplodocus. NHM’s famous Hans Sloane nautilus shell also appears along the hem and cuffs.
Produced by British Christmas Jumpers - a family-run firm in Leicester, UK - the design was the biggest job the company has ever had to produce and took more than 100 hours to complete.
“We’ve never done anything like this. My dad’s never done anything like this and he’s been in this business for 35 to 40 years,” said Sasha Patel, director at British Christmas Jumpers.
“It’s probably the biggest thing we’ve made and going forward into the future there are other big projects planned.”
Not only is the jumper available in T-Rex size, but visitors can also get a regular, human-sized version from the museum’s gift shop.
You can also purchase the jumper as a pre-order online, with all proceeds going towards funding the venue’s work, including research and care for its more than 80 million specimens.
