Suspected lion roaming Berlin area not from a zoo

A lioness currently being hunted in the southwestern outskirts of Berlin is not thought to be from any local zoos, animal sanctuaries or circuses.

A video shared on Twitter - thought to be real - shows the lioness in a forest in nearby Kleinmachnow. Police first issued the alarm in the early hours, after two people saw what appeared to be the lioness chasing a boar down a street.

More than 30 police cars and veterinarians to assist have been deployed in the hunt, with residents urged to stay indoors until the animal is found.

It’s unclear where the animal has come from with no local facilities acknowledging an escape from one of their facilities.
