The star of Disney’s 2009 animated hit The Princess and the Frog has revealed that the long-awaited Princess and the Frog ride - a refit of the popular Splash Mountain attraction in Disney World, Florida - could open in 2024.

“They are making a ride – it’ll be out in 2024,” Anika Noni Rose, who voiced Tiana in the movie, revealed during an appearance on US morning show Live with Kelly and Ryan.

“I’ve been involved in the beginning, just talking about how we want it to be, what we want it to do, but, if I were to tell you anything else, I would be sucked into the ground and you’d never see me again,” she added.

Disney has not officially confirmed the ride’s opening date, with a Disney spokesperson telling Entertainment Weekly that “timing has not been determined”. However, more details are expected to be revealed later this month at the Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Once complete, the transformed attraction will feature a new storyline following Tiana, Naveen and Louis – voiced by Rose, Bruno Campos and Michael-Leon Wooley – as they plan a Mardi Gras celebration. Riders follow Tiana and go down colourful canals to a party filled with familiar faces and even some new characters, all set to an original soundtrack inspired by the movie score.

Plans to overhaul the ride, which first opened at the Magic Kingdom in 1992, were announced in 2020. As part of their research, Disney’s Imagineering team travelling to New Orleans to gain an understanding of the city’s culture and history, to incorporate into the look and feel of the ride.
