Six Flags has launched its first luxury hotel, with the new safari-themed offering allowing guests to see a range of exotic animals from their glamping-style hotel rooms.
Now open at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, US, the Savannah Sunset Resort and Spa sees “oppulence meet the open savannah”, with the 20-bedroom safari hotel, overlooking the park’s 1.4sq km (0.54sq mi) African-themed expanse.
Modelled after an African camp, rooms can sleep two to six people and are themed with genuine, handcrafted African wood furniture, with vast views of the savannah on offer from their balcony. Guests also have exclusive access to Mahaba Grill - the hotel’s on-site restaurant. A spa completes the offering with guests able to enjoy deep-tissue massages with a wooden African rungu stick. Visitors can also enjoy a 45-minute drive through the safari park, which includes everything from lions to black bears.
Stays at the luxury hotel start at US$599 (€558, £472) during the summer season, with stays bookable for a minimum of two nights. As well as receiving tickets to the Six Flags park with queue jumping access on major rides, hotel guests also have exclusive access to daily giraffe feedings.
“We needed to really deliver things that were special,” said Edithann Velez Ramey, chief marketing officer at Six Flags. “It’s one of our biggest, largest properties, so we knew we wanted to invest and we’re thrilled that it’s happening in New Jersey.”
According to Six Flags, the luxury resort is the first step in a strategy to encourage higher spending across the company’s parks. This is the company’s first foray into the world of luxury hotels ahead of its planned US$1.9bn (€1.7bn, £1.4bn) merger with Cedar Fair.
The hotel opened to the public on June 14. Guests must be at least five years old to stay at the property.
