SeaWorld has looked to Disney for its most recent senior appointment, with the operator naming industry veteran Jim Lake as the new president of its San Diego theme park.
Lake becomes the fourth president at SeaWorld San Diego in the last six years, with the Disney man arriving ahead of the launch of Sesame Place, which will officially open next month after being given an opening date of March 26.
Lake has held the position for some time, taking up the role in November. However, SeaWorld only recently announced the move, with a spokesperson saying the operator wanted to “give him some time to settle in”.
Lake joined Disney in 1989, working for the company for more than a decade at multiple parks before leaving to join leisure park operator Palace Entertainment as director of operations in 2003. He would return to Disneyland in 2006, working his way up to the position of general manager where he would be responsible for the park’s day-to-day operations.
In addition to the launch of Sesame Place, SeaWorld San Diego will also launch its newest rollercoaster next month, with Emperor - touted as the tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster in California - set to open on March 12.
