Disneyland Paris’s popular Ratatouille attraction has made its way to the US, with the immersive dark ride set to make its Epcot debut next month as part of an expanded French pavilion.
Joining the World Showcase, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is a family-friendly attraction shrinking guests down into the larger-than-life world of Ratatouille.
Racing through Gusteau’s restaurant, visitors board colourful rat-shaped vehicles and then don 3D glasses to begin the adventure, seeing everything from a “rat’s-eye view.”
The trackless vehicles travel in groups of three and move forward and backwards while spinning, tilting and bouncing along as the rats scamper from one scene to the next.
Depending on which vehicle guests board, they may take a slightly different path through the attraction and notice new details if they experience Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure multiple times. Characters speak in a blend of English and French, adding to the overall authenticity of the France pavilion.
The expansion more than doubles the size of the existing French pavilion at Epcot, with the area now using Chef Remy as inspiration from the Disney catalogue, while also blending real-world France and Paris into the mix.
In this new area of the park, visitors will journey down a waterside pathway near the Epcot International Gateway. They’ll walk under an art nouveau-style archway evoking a Paris Metro station before rounding a corner and entering a French market street called Alleé des Marchands.
In addition to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, the expanded pavilion will also welcome La Crêperie de Paris - a new restaurant offering authentic French cuisine with a menu from celebrity chef Jérôme Bocuse.
After passing La Crêperie de Paris, guests walk through a cast-iron arcade that serves as the transition from real-world France to the fantastical vision of Paris from Ratatouille.
According to Disney, Pixar artists coined the term “crookedology” to describe the fanciful interpretation of the “City of Light” in their film, with Disney’s Imagineers applying this aesthetic to Remy’s Paris at Epcot.
A fountain is the focal point of the area, with the three-basin feature decorated with rats holding bottles and flutes of champagne as water shoots out of the bottles toward the top. On top of the fountain stands Remy wearing his classic French toque and holding a cooking spoon.
The October 1 launch will also mark the start of “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” - an 18-month event celebrating Disney World’s 50th anniversary.
