Warner Bros. Discovery has teamed up with live event discovery platform Fever to launch a new Beetlejuice-themed pop-up experience in the US.

Called ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: The Afterlife Experience’, the immersive experience celebrates the upcoming release of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the highly-anticipated sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 cult classic film Beetlejuice.

Opened on August 23 at Ovation Hollywood, a retailtainment complex in Los Angeles, California, the experience spans 11,000sq ft (1,022 sq m) and combines live entertainment with immersive sets, character interactions and photo opportunities.

The experience begins inside the Deetz’s attic, where guests knock three times on the portal to the Netherworld, where they fill out a passport to gain access to the Afterlife.

Once inside, guests are transported to the Beetlejuice universe, where they can explore meticulously recreated set pieces, interact with characters – including the titular trickster himself, have their faces appear on the ‘Handbook for the Recently Deceased’ and even come face-to-face with a sandworm.

Also on offer are themed food and beverage options from Fanta and Butterfinger at The Afterlife Diner, as well as limited edition merchandise in the Afterlife gift shop and a salon offering Beetlejuice-themed makeovers in partnership with cosmetics brands Nyx and Splat.

Warner Bros. Discovery, which licenses and creates theme park experiences based on its IP, developed Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: The Afterlife Experience to combine elements from both movies, something which Kathleen Wallis, VP of global themed entertainment at Warner Bros. Discovery, told Licensing Global “elevates the whole experience” and delivers a “very authentic, immersive experience for fans.”

The 70-minute experience runs at Ovation Hollywood until October 6, but the popularity of ticket sales could lead to an extension or even a tour.

“One of the driving factors for us to do this and invest so much in building out this experience was that we think it has legs,” Wallis told Forbes.

“There’s so much love for the first movie, and we think there will be so much love for the second movie. We’re already starting to see some nice reviews, which is exciting.

“With all of our experiences, once they open and we can gauge demand, we absolutely have the opportunity to tour this next year to other cities in the United States.”

“It’s been fun to hear how this experience has made people even more excited for the movie. We’re excited for people to come in and step into the world of the afterlife,” Sofia Altuna, team lead, US Originals at Fever, told Licensing Global.

Tickets for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: The Afterlife Experience start from US$25 (€23, £19) and are available here
