London’s Natural History Museum (NHM) has launched its NHM Masterclass programme, a series of educational online courses that will take attendees inside the museum’s cutting-edge research.
Led by some of the museum’s leading scientists and curators, the NHM Masterclass programme will explore and explain contemporary research themes through up-to-the-minute scientific discoveries, existing and current NHM research and the museum’s collection of more than 80 million specimens.
The courses will cover topics including the origin of the solar system, the scientific principles of the Planetary Emergency and how biodiversity researchers are tackling the threat of the next pandemic.
Delivered online over six weeks, the courses will feature weekly interactive Q&A sessions and an in-person reception at the museum in the final week for students to meet their peers and lecturers.
“Creating advocates for the planet is at the heart of our mission,” said Tim Littlewood, the NHM’s executive director of science.
“We’re delighted to be unlocking the groundbreaking scientific work happening behind the scenes at the museum for those who want to deepen their understanding of the natural world and bring the museum’s work to life.
“The NHM Masterclass is suitable for anybody with burning questions about the universe and curiosity about life on earth.”
