Merlin Entertainments has announced a partnership with technology company eSight that will see the global attractions giant develop ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ experiences for individuals with visual impairment.
The company’s eSight 4 vision-enhancement technology will be utilised for the experiences, with the equipment clinically proven to enhance sight through the combination of best-match camera and lens technology to stimulate the brain.
Designed as a wearable headset, the eSight 4 allows the user to remain mobile. It has been used by thousands of people and can assist with more than 20 eye conditions, including optic atrophy and Stargardt’s disease.
The experiences will be rolled out across several major attractions locations, including Legoland Parks, Legoland Discovery Centres and Sea Life Centres.

“This partnership allows us to make a deep impact on lives around the world. With Merlin’s expertise, we are able to give people with visual impairments a day they’ll never forget,” said eSight CEO Robert Vaters.
“When a child tries on eSight, a whole new world of possibility opens before their eyes. They are able to read the board at school and are able to stay active. They can explore the world in a whole new way, allowing them to forge new paths that may not have been available before.”
In addition to supplying the technology, eSight will also work with Merlin to create more inclusive initiatives for guests with low vision or legal blindness.
The companies first joined forces in December 2020, to create a VIP experience, which enabled legally blind 14-year-old, Jimy Rubio, to see enormous Lego builds at the Legoland Discovery Center in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.
Since then eSight and Merlin have gone on to create ‘unforgettable, life-changing’ experiences for children at the brand-new Legoland New York resort and Sea Life at Mall of America.
The two companies plan to replicate their efforts at other Merlin properties across North America.
