Musician and songwriter Tom Fletcher has created an original song for Illuminate! A Nighttime Celebration - a new firework show at the Shanghai Disney Resort in Shanghai, China.
The song, titled ‘Light is in You’, forms the soundtrack to the new nighttime spectacular, which celebrates the park’s fifth anniversary.
Fletcher, who fronts British pop band McFly, took to Instagram to share the news with his two million followers.
“Seeing Mickey on the castle doing his thing to a song I wrote is… well, it still hasn’t quite sunk in yet!,” he said.
“Being asked to be part of the team that created this new show literally made my dreams come true, as only Disney could!”
“I wish I could have been there to see the opening!” he added.
Illuminate! A Nighttime Celebration
The new nighttime spectacular opened at the Shanghai Disney Resort on April 8, 2021, replacing Ignite the Dream - A Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light.
Described by resort president and general manager Joe Schott as
a “truly immersive and magical conclusion to a day at Shanghai Disney Resort,” the show combines projection mapping with lasers, pyrotechnics, fountains and lighting effects to create a fully immersive dreamscape.
It features all new content with more than 80 characters from more than 40 movies from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Marvel Studios and Pixar, and includes scenes and characters from Coco, Aladdin, The Lion King, Inside Out, Moana, Toy Story, Frozen, Tangled, Zootopia and Big Hero 6.
Illuminate also marks the first appearance of Marvel super heroes, such as Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther and the Guardians of the Galaxy, on the Disney castle.
“The show is the result of the talent of over 70 Disney experts and consultants from eight countries,” said Schott.
“We wanted to create an exceptional experience for our guests to thank them for making our first five years so memorable.”
