A big-screen adaptation of a major V&A exhibition is expected to hit cinemas later this year.
Called V&A Presents: Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser, the 80-minute documentary has been described as a ‘special cinema event’ and will take viewers behind-the-scenes of the London museum’s Alice in Wonderland exhibition.
Presented by broadcaster Andi Oliver and V&A senior curator Kate Bailey, the film will offer an exclusive view of the exhibition, including close-up shots of key objects, as well as interviews with contributors Ralph Steadman and Peter Blake.
It will provide fascinating insights into the longevity of the beloved and iconic children’s character and her continued impact on cultural figures, such as Salvador Dali, Vivienne Westwood and Tim Burton.
The film was produced by Trafalgar Releasing, which previously worked on the cinematic release of the V&A’s David Bowie Is exhibition, and directed by Dione Orrom and Matt Askem. It will open in select cinemas across the UK on October 14.
“Creating a film of Alice’s exhibition Adventures is a dream and an incredible way of sharing the experience with audiences who are unable to visit the exhibition in London,” said Bailey.
“Curating an exhibition is years of research and a cinema film is a great way of capturing the bigger picture. It provides an exciting opportunity to delve deeper into the impact and legacy of Alice, sharing unseen and extraordinary insights into the imagination of artists and designers creating Wonderlands.”
