The courtyard of the iconic Louvre was transformed this week with a special installation for Louis Vuitton's Spring Summer 2023 menswear show.
The oversized yellow toy race track was created by Los Angeles-based studio PlayLab as part of the festivities for Paris Fashion Week with the show taking place on June 23. The track winds through the Carrée du Louvre, with a raised part of the track and even a rollercoaster-style loop. Its colour is a nod to the famous yellow brick road in Wizard of Oz.
"Like a magnified playground, a giant children’s toy racetrack erected in the Cour Carrée of the Louvre becomes a yellow brick road for the imagination: an evolutionary path for the mind where childlike fantasies come to life," said Louis Vuitton.
"It's a transition from naïve to refined reflected in a collection that elevates the symbols of childhood through the savoir-faire of the Maison."
In addition to the race track itself, oversized red balloons were placed across the courtyard to add to the childlike theme of the set-up.
Prior to models entering the space, a marching band procession from The Marching 100 opened the show followed by a band of dancing Louis Vuitton flag wavers.
