London’s Natural History Museum celebrates Mars Day 2022 with special installation

The Natural History Museum in London is set to host a special piece by artist Luke Jerram, which will bring Mars into the museum as a giant (though not as giant as the planet itself) suspended orb.






The Natural History Museum in London is set to host a special piece by artist Luke Jerram, which will bring Mars into the museum as a giant (though not as giant as the planet itself) suspended orb.

Celebrating Mars Day 2022, which commemorates the anniversary of the launch of the first ExoMars mission, March 14th and 15th will see the red planet take centre stage in the museum’s iconic Hintze Hall.

“The artwork allows us to view Mars from the air,” said Jerram. “Every valley, crater, volcano and mountain is laid bare for us to inspect. The artwork transports us to this desert wasteland, to imagine what it's like to step foot on this incredible planet.”

To tie in with the festivities the museum will also be hosting a series of virtual and in-person events for schools and other audiences.
