Recent attacks against art in the name of climate change activism has seen Monet’s Haystacks become the latest victim to the trend.

On October 23, two activists from the group Letzte Generation (Last Generation) entered the Museum Barberini in Potsdam, Germany, unleashing an attack on the work of art worth US$111m.

After unleashing the mashed potatoes, the pair crouched beneath the work and glued their hands to the wall, but were quickly detached by police and taken into custody.

The museum says it will close until October 30 to evaluate the “risks revealed” by the stunt.

The attack comes just a week after activists associated with Just Stop Oil threw tomato soup on Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers at the National Gallery in London.
