A summer of pop-up events is planned for Bergamo and Brescia - two cities that have been jointly named the 2023 Italian Capital of Culture.
Taking over from the island of Procida, both cities have been chosen as a symbol of renaissance, hope, and rebirth through culture.
Among the events scheduled, thousands of local artists will descend on Bergamo from June 21-24 for various showings.
June will also see Brescia host Festa Della Music, while hundreds of films by important contemporary directors, as well as Italian and foreign productions, will be screened at outdoor film festivals.
Currently taking place until June 17 is 1000 Miglia 2023 - an event founded in 1927 and today an event for historic cars passing through Italy’s most beautiful scenery.
Bergamo and Brescia have also become the exhibition spaces for the iconic installations of Kaarina Kaikkonen, a contemporary Finnish artist who has been working for years with large-scale urban and relational art interventions.
