Horniman Museum and Gardens named Art Fund’s Museum Of The Year 2022 | Planet Attractions

Horniman Museum and Gardens named Art Fund’s Museum Of The Year 2022

Horniman Museum and Gardens has been named the Art Fund’s Museum Of The Year, with the attraction taking home a £100,000 (US$119,000, €117,000) prize.

Announced earlier this week, Art Fund said that it had selected the winner because it brought together art and nature in one holistic museum, had woven its values into everything it does, breathed life into its collections with new relevance for diverse communities, and set the agenda for how a traditional museum can reinvent itself through powerful ideas.

The winner was selected from a shortlist of five finalists, including Derby Museums, the Museum of Making, the People’s History Museum, the Story Museum, and Tŷ Pawb. Each of the runners up will receive a £15,000 (US$18,000, €17,600) prize in recognition of their work.

“It’s absolutely overwhelming and fantastic news” said Nick Merriman, chief executive and director of content for the Horniman.

“It’s fantastic for all our wonderful volunteers, our board of trustees and of course our visitors. It’s been a tough couple of years but we’ve done some wonderful work and we’re delighted, what an endorsement.”
