From The Community: Riding Nemesis 64 times in a row, manufacturing the Big One’s track and how many birds are there at Disney World?

Highlighting some incredible content, welcome to From The Community - a fortnightly roundup of everything fans and influencers from within the attractions community have been up to all over the world.

In this week’s edition, one enthusiast tries to ride Alton Towers’ iconic Nemesis 64 straight times, we get a look at how a rollercoaster maintains and replaces its track, and we ask the very important question - how many animatronic birds are there at Disney World?

Starting with Lift Hills and Thrills, this week, Sean Evans defied vertigo and the need for toilet breaks as he set a new world record by riding Nemesis at Alton Towers 64 times in just six hours.

Chronicling the experience on is YouTube channel, Evans averaged ten rides an hour, successfully hitting his target and beating the old record by just one ride just as Nemesis was closing for the day.

Meanwhile, Pleasure Beach Experience has gone behind-the-scenes at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, sharing details about how new track is manufactured by Taziker for the park’s Big One coaster.

From Blackpool to Orlando, with CoasterForce sharing an unobstructed look at the queue line area and station for Velocicoaster - the highly-anticipated ride coming to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure on June 10.

Continuing our world tour, Theme Park Review has travelled to Wonder Island in Saint Petersburg, Russia, where they’ve got to the front of three different rollercoasters at the popular attraction.



Moving over to SeaWorld, Defunctland has looked at the history of what it describes as “the worst SeaWorld ride”, Submarine Quest.

A dark ride that closed less than a year after its debut, SeaWorld boasted that Submarine Quest would transform visitors into underwater researchers, though the ride was rarely open and eventually was scrapped altogether.

Sticking with SeaWorld - a copycat park built by Six Flags is the subject of the latest release by Expedition Theme Park, which has delved into the history of the troubled Seven Seas attraction in Arlington, Texas.

Opened in 1972, the short-lived park was heavily influenced by the original SeaWorld Park, and was even run by the founder of SeaWorld, George Milay.

Travelling back over to British shores, ParkSpill was in attendance at Alton Towers for the opening day of David Walliams’ new Gangsta Granny dark ride attraction. See how they got on with the new ride in their latest video.

Placing the focus on children’s rides, Jordan Middelton at Cupcakes & Coasters has listed her ‘Top 10 Kiddie Creds’ - the best kids coasters which can also boost an enthusiast’s coaster count.

Next up is Coaster Studios, which has looked at Rocky Mountain Construction’s new family coaster model, which utilises the traditional I-Box track as seen on their other models, but for a smaller ride layout.



Heading over to Midway to Main Street which has asked - and answered - another one of its unique questions - how many animatronic birds are there at Disney World?

The answer? 208. Many of which happened to be chickens.
