Jeff Cheney, the mayor of Frisco, Texas, has revealed how and why Universal chose the US city for its next major theme park project.
According to Universal, Frisco was selected because of the city’s growing population and ability to attract businesses to the area. Speaking to local media channel NBCDFW, Cheney revealed more details behind the decision.
“Frisco has built itself a brand that is recognised now across the country, with projects like The Star and PGA Frisco and those types of things,” he explained.
“They were looking to be in this market and, I know, had kind of searched different sites in adjacent cities, and kept hearing the buzz of Frisco and decided that this is where they wanted to be.”
The new attraction will be aimed at younger children and has a footprint of 393,000sq m (4.23 million sq ft). The park will include family-friendly rides, shows and a hotel, as well as character meet-and-greet opportunities.
Further details about the park are yet to be disclosed, however, Universal has said that its look and feel will also be noticeably different from its other offerings. A rendering of the project shows a bright and colourful landscape with visible attractions on display including a boat ride, hedge maze, several spinning rides and a water play area.
