Florida’s Clearwater Marine Aquarium announces major revitalisation project

Clearwater Marine Aquarium's Rising Tides project will see the launch of a new Manatee Rehabilitation Center

The Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Florida, US, has launched a new facility revitalisation project that seeks to create new habitats, house more wildlife and further its global conservation efforts.

The first phase of the project, dubbed “Rising Tides”, will see the opening of a new Manatee Rehabilitation Center, which aquarium officials have described as a “significant step for the conservation and wellbeing of the endangered marine mammals.”

The project will also feature an international expansion for the aquarium, with plans to launch of the Belize Manatee Rescue and Educational Center in Central America.

Other new additions will include several new marine “ambassadors” including sharks, sea lions and penguins.

“This is a win for the city of Clearwater. This is a win for the aquatic community that we serve, and this is a win for everyone who walks through our doors, because they will know more about the impact that they can make than they would if they’d not visited us,” said Clearwater Marine Aquarium CEO Joe Handy.
