One of Disney’s most popular live entertainment experiences is set to return to Disney World in Florida, US, later this year.

Festival of the Lion King, says Disney, will reopen - COVID-permitting - at Animal Kingdom in the summer.

The show, based on the classic 90s movie version of The Lion King , was forced to close in March last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. While some of Disney’s parks were able to reopen in summer 2020, live experiences are yet to return.

The production will undergo several modifications to ensure it’s COVID-safe for both the guests and performers, including updated choreography that will allow for appropriate physical distancing among cast members, while audience seating will be adapted to ensure social distancing between parties.

While an exact opening date is currently unknown, Disney has begun the cast recall process for the show, which employs dozens of performers.
