Dame Diane Lees, the Director-General of Imperial War Museums (IWM) has announced that she will step down from her role on March 31 2023.
Joining IWM in 2008, Lees is the first female director-general of IWM since its creation in 1917.
Over the course of her fourteen years in the role, Lees has successfully redeveloped branches of the museum through more than £90m of fundraising and investments.
“The museum, and the sector more generally, have undergone huge change since I began in 2008 and I feel proud to have been at the helm throughout this significant period,” said Lees. “I have had the privilege to have worked with so many incredible IWM staff, Trustees, partners, veterans and Holocaust survivors, who have made being director-general a rewarding and extraordinary experience.”
