The Smithsonian's Washington DC area museum and the National Zoo have introduced a new schedule in response to staff shortages caused by the Omicron wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In force "until further notice", the newly-modified schedule will see the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of American History and the National Museum of African American History and Culture remain open five days a week, with most museums open on weekends.
The new schedule, says the Smithsonian, reflects the continued need to reduce operations due to ongoing staff shortages while accommodating the needs of the public by opening more museums on weekends. Museums may have limited public entrances, and some exhibition spaces may be closed during this period.
