A new visitor experience based on beloved British soap Coronation Street has opened in Manchester, UK.

Coronation Street: The Tour is an expanded version of a pre-existing set tour and takes visitors inside the cobbled streets of the world’s longest-running soap opera.

Described as the “ultimate haven for ardent Coronation Street viewers”, the experience was developed by experiential design firm Mather & Co and is housed inside a purpose-built media centre on the show’s production lot.

Occupying 16,500sq ft (1,533sq m), the tour features meticulously recreated replica set pieces – including Roy’s Rolls and the bar at the Rovers Return – as well as authentic props and costumes.

It also offers several new features including a cinema, where visitors can relive iconic moments from the soap, as well as a visitor centre, cinema, café, retail space and access to new sets.

According to Neil Currie, guest experience manager at ITV Attractions, the experience has been designed so that it can be constantly updated to reflect the show’s storylines.

“Having this kind of exhibition floor gives us the chance to constantly update and change things alongside the programme’s on-air stories,” he said.

“Once a storyline has played out on your TV screen, we’ll be updating the props and costumes along the way. We’re thrilled to be able to offer fans of Coronation Street an even more immersive experience with the launch of the Coronation Street Experience and can’t wait for our first guests to arrive.”

Commenting on the opening, Paul Lee, design director at Mather & Co, said: “Working with ITV again is a great honour, as Mather & Co has developed a strong relationship with the renowned brand since the 2014 tour. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to create such an exceptional experience for this acclaimed TV show.”
