British astronaut Tim Peake has announced he will permanently step down from his role as a European astronaut to focus on his work as an ambassador for space and science.
Peake, who flew to the International Space Station in 2015/2016 for a six-month stay, earned significant recognition globally but especially in the UK.
Since returning, Peake has worked as a STEM advocate, focusing on education and outreach, including working with a number of STEM attractions on special talks, appearances and exhibitions.
“Tim Peake is an incredible ambassador for the UK space sector and has played a leading role over the past decade,” said Dr Paul Bate, CEO of the UK Space Agency.
“Not only has he carried out important scientific work, during his historic Principia mission to the International Space Station and while on Earth, but he has inspired millions with his passion for space and the opportunities it offers.”
