‘Some have more money than they do time’: McCarthy defends Disney price rises

Discussing rising ticket costs at Disney’s parks, company CFO Christine McCarthy has defended prices, saying that new price tiers will cater to all audiences.

Discussing rising ticket costs at Disney’s parks, company CFO Christine McCarthy has defended prices, saying that new price tiers will cater to all audiences.

Speaking on the rises, she said: “Some people have more time than they do money, and some have more money than they do time,” adding that new tiers of ticket pricing and services cater to both groups.

Disney’s entry-level ticket price has not been raised since 2019, however, add-ons, such as the Genie+ service have been introduced since then and the price for a peak visiting day is also up. Disney also came under fire recently for the price of its Star Wars hotel, with certain packages setting back guests by up to US$6,000 for a family of four.

“You don’t get everything, you don’t get every day, you don’t get peak periods,” said McCarthy on the ticket prices. “But you can go into the park just like anybody else. You can buy up or trade-up for a more engaged experience, or more flexibility.”

McCarthy added that events like parades and fireworks and character meet-and-greets - which will restart this year following Covid-related absences - attract more guests and help reduce queue times for popular attractions. Disney’s parks haven’t operated at full capacity since the start of the pandemic.
